On 29th November 2022, Smart Change held the last series of activities from the Future City Accelerator x JAKI program. Held at the Goethe-Institut Jakarta, the event took place from 10.00-14.00 WIB. Future City Accelerator x JAKI is one of Smart Change Jakarta’s projects which was implemented by Enpact and funded by the European Union. Do you want know more about the event? Read here.

Future City Accelerator x JAKI: The Forerunner of Startup and Government Collaboration

Future City Accelerator x JAKI aims to empower entrepreneurs, startups, and government agencies to collaborate in solving urban-related challenges. The main agenda of this program is to select, train, and integrate services from startups in Indonesia with the JAKI application. With the involvement of the Provincial Governments of DKI Jakarta and Berlin, startups get golden opportunities such as participating in mentoring with national and international mentors, to business training done directly by experts in their fields. It is hoped that with the integration that will be established, startups can develop their business, in line with the government's joint efforts to help people find solutions to problems they encounter in Jakarta.

From Pitching Business Ideas to Networking

As the culmination of the Future City Accelerator x JAKI program, yesterday's closing event consisted of a series of interesting agendas. The event was opened with remarks from Kariem El-Ali as Senior Policy Advisor and Team Lead Smart Change Jakarta and Yudhistira Nugraha as Head of Jakarta Smart City. The last speech was given by Sonny Sudaryana, Program Coordinator of the 1000 Startup Digital National Movement. During his speech, Sonny expressed his hope that this activity could become a space to share innovations for the government and startups as well as become a trigger for discussions and cooperation between stakeholders.

Afterwards, the event continued with the introduction of Smart Change and Future City Hub, as well as a group photo session. After the photo session was finished, then the pitching session for startups was carried out. This session is the final stage after startups taking part in the bootcamp in October-November 2022. In this session, representatives from five selected startups introduced business ideas and collaborative systems in product development to event audiences, including the Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD), Jakarta Smart City, and a number of investors. There are five selected startups, Mallsampah, Eresto, Qiwii, PaxelBox, and MAPID which operate in various sectors.

Mallsampah

Defining itself as a circular economy platform, Makassar-based Mallsampah aims to help people recycle waste for free. In this mission, Mallsampah empowers and digitizes the work of collectors and scavengers in Indonesia who previously worked undetected and connects them with the government and other stakeholders. Mallsampah also helps producers, in this case Fast-moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies, to manage waste from the goods they produce.

So far, Mallsampah has two main features in the application, pick-up and drop-off. With the pick-up feature, people can take photos of the results of recycling and upload them to the application so that the nearest mall garbage collector can pick up, weigh and pay for the garbage. Meanwhile, the drop off feature helps residents to take their waste to the nearest recycling center. Recycling through Mallsampah does not cost money. Instead, residents will get paid according to the type and weight of waste if they use the pick-up service.

In addition to the features in the application, Mallsampah also provides a real-time dashboard, which can be used for reporting targets on Regional Policies and Strategies for the Management of Household Waste and Household-like Waste (JAKSTRADA), and so on. Currently, Mallsampah services can only be accessed in the Jakarta and Makassar areas. It is hoped that Mallsampah can collaborate with JAKI so that it can add recycling by 30 tons of waste per month, 1,000 requests for recycling each month, and also expand the ecosystem and monetize Mallsampah.

Eresto

As the name implies, Eresto is engaged in restaurant management software or the Food and Beverage (F&B) business to help culinary entrepreneurs digitize, monitor and manage their business properly. The services offered range from ordering management at outlets, managing inventory of goods, to a financial recording system in the application.

The system owned by Eresto has the potential to be integrated with DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's JakPreneur which is available at JAKI. For example, when residents place orders via e-Order, one of the JakPreneur programs, they can be connected directly to Eresto products and pay using JakOne Pay. From the collaboration, the government will be able to have big data on the circulation of food and groceries in Jakarta.

Qiwii

Qiwii provides queuing system services that can be applied in various industrial sectors and business scales, such as, the health sector and government. By using Qiwii, residents can take queues online through an application, wait for queues from anywhere, monitor queue conditions remotely, and get notifications when their turn has arrived. In other words, the Qiwii system helps prevent customer complaints and increase their satisfaction. In the future, Qiwii hopes to cooperate with JAKI in providing virtual waiting rooms and queue monitoring, digital guest books, and so on.

PaxelBox

Perhaps you have heard of Paxel before. One of Paxel's business lines, which is PaxelBox, offers locker facilities that can be used to store or deposit goods as well as pick up and drop off goods sent using Paxel services. Customers don't need to worry about losing their stuff, because PaxelBox lockers are also equipped with CCTV. Now, PaxelBox is available in more than 260 locations around Jabodetabek.

Now, imagine if we could order lockers only through an app. Much more simple, right? That is one of the potential collaborations that PaxelBox and JAKI can do in the future. It is hoped that PaxelBox can integrate with JAKI and become a solution for people who have difficulty finding a place to store their belongings in Jakarta's public spaces.

MAPID

MAPID, a Bandung-based startup, was developed upon the problem of finding and digesting the right data to determine policy directions. As a location intelligence platform, MAPID links various location data from trusted sources. In addition, it also connects users through real-time mapping collaboration. MAPID's business idea can be integrated into the JAKI application system and provide connected location data services, advanced spatial modeling, and information on hyperlocal locations.

After each startup presents its business ideas, the audience asks some questions that were to be answered by startup representatives.

Fireside Chat on Smart Citizen and Innovation for Public Space in Jakarta

After the pitching session ends, the audiences deepen the discussion regarding digital transformation and public space innovation in Jakarta through the Fireside Chat session. This session invited Raedi Fadil, Manager of the Jakarta Smart City Communication Team and Alvin Tjitrowirjo, Founder of Shape of Thoughts as speakers. Fireside Chat lasted thirty minutes. At the end of the session, the audience asked questions to be answered by the speakers.

Networking Sessions

The last session of the closing event is the networking session. Each startup was welcome to build relations, do in-depth discussions, or talk about the potential collaborations with Jakarta Smart City and investors. Each startup representative will stand in front of their respective table, and audience members who are interested in further conversation would immediately approach the desired startup representative. With this Networking Session, explanations about business ideas that startups will build and potential collaborations could become more detailed.
