Air Quality Portal for Blue Skies in Jakarta
Jakarta has a number of SPKU/Stasiun Pemantau Kualitas Udara (air quality monitoring stations). These are tools that have a significant impact on the lives of everyone. One of the results can be seen on the portal of Kualitas Udara Jakarta Jakarta (Jakarta air quality). We can access the portal through the link udara.jakarta.go.id. To better understand what is in it, let’s discuss it!
About the Jakarta Air Quality Portal
The Jakarta air quality portal (udara.jakarta.go.id) serves as an integration platform that monitors air quality. Launched by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, this platform is the result of synergy between the government (DLH/Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Jakartaand BMKG/Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika) with non-governmental parties (WRI/World Resources Institute and Vital Strategies)
By opening the udara.jakarta.go.id portal, you will see data from 31 SPKU in Jakarta. Of course, the government will continue to increase the number of stations and the data on the portal will also increase. Here are the details about the Jakarta air quality portal that you need to understand:
- Complies with SNI 9178:2023 which means that the portal meets the criteria for accurate and consistent data.
- Has air quality education and information features, providing information on the impacts on health and intervention steps.
- Has historical air quality data in real time.

Understanding SPKU (Stasiun Pemantau Kualitas Udara)
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has built a tool called SPKU/Stasiun Pemantauan Kualitas Udara (air quality monitoring station). The function is to measure the level of air pollution in an area.
In general, SPKU are located in public places: roadsides and industrial estates. SPKU data is also available on the portal of Kualitas Udara Jakarta (Jakarta air quality portal) and can be viewed on the udara.jakarta.go.id/lokasi_stasiun page.
There are various pollutants that can pollute the air, for example PM2.5 (Particulate Matter 2.5). PM 2.5 are fine particles in the air with a size of 2.5 microns or less. When inhaled by humans, these particles, which are 30 times smaller than the width of a human hair, can cause problems with the eyes and respiratory tract. Moreover, SPKU in Jakarta can also detect pollutants such as:
- PM10;
- PM2.5;
- CO (carbon monoxide gas)
- NOx (nitrogen oxides);
- SO₂ (sulfur dioxide); and
- O3 (ozone).

When pollutants are detected, it is time for the government to take policies that are useful for the residents. In addition, as residents, we can decide for ourselves the various activities that will be carried out. The benefits of building SPKU in Jakarta are:
- As a basis for determining policies and strategies for controlling air pollution.
- Making decisions based on the accuracy of air data that represents space and time.
- Establishing the ambient air quality status of the area.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of air pollution control policies.
- Observing trends in air pollution in the observed area.
- Validate air pollution dispersion models to predict the contribution of sources and types of pollution.
- Prediction of future air quality.
Protect Air Quality in Jakarta Together
Relishing clean air in Jakarta is our right. However, good air quality cannot be achieved without the participation of all of us. Simple steps like stopping burning waste can have a significant impact! In addition, we can start getting used to using more environmentally friendly transportation. If we use public transportation more regularly, the number of vehicles on the road will also decrease. This reduces exhaust gas emissions.
Let’s participate in making a positive impact on Jakarta! Surely, we can make this city a healthier and more comfortable place to live. Need further information about air quality in Jakarta? Follow @jsclab!
