Jakarta is preparing to celebrate its 498th anniversary on June 22, 2025. More than just an annual festivity, this year’s celebration also marks the countdown to a historic milestone: Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027.
As a city that continues to grow and evolve, Jakarta is presenting its anniversary celebration through a series of events that reflect the spirit of collaboration, culture, innovation, and sustainability. Dozens of activities organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government and various partners will take place throughout the city, involving people from all walks of life.
Events for Jakarta's 498th Anniversary
Below is a list of events open to the public that residents and tourists alike can enjoy throughout Jakarta’s anniversary month. All events are free to attend and spread across various locations accessible via public transportation.
DIY Trail
From May 17 to July 26, 2025, the DIY Trail invites the public to explore Jakarta’s historical heritage through four major museums: Jakarta History Museum, Joang '45 Museum, M.H. Thamrin Museum, and the Museum of Inscriptions. Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibitions independently using interactive guides that enrich the museum experience.
Festival Cerita Kota (City Story Festival)
On May 18 and June 14, 2025, this festival takes place at the Maritime Museum, Onrust Archaeological Museum, and the Marunda Site. The event features stories from Jakarta’s past presented through performances and workshops—perfect for families and youth eager to learn history in a more engaging way.
Eco-Friendly Mosque Program
Running from May 21 to June 19, 2025, this program promotes environmentally friendly practices in Jakarta’s mosques, including waste management, energy efficiency, and the creation of green open spaces—part of the broader mission to strengthen Jakarta’s position as a sustainable city.
Jakarta Great Sale Festival
Returning from May 26 to July 10, 2025, this festival sees hundreds of shopping centers offering attractive discounts in celebration of Jakarta’s anniversary. In addition to shopping, visitors can enjoy entertainment shows, fashion events, and local culinary tenants.
Indonesia Fashion Week
From May 28 to June 1, 2025, the Jakarta Convention Center will host Indonesia Fashion Week, bringing together national designers, textile industry players, and creative MSMEs to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the archipelago.
Affordable Food Bazaar
Throughout May and June 2025, the Jakarta Provincial Food, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency is organizing food bazaars across all five city regions to support residents' purchasing power in the lead-up to the city's anniversary.
Jakarta Illumination Island
Held from June 1 to 7, 2025, this event transforms Pramuka Island in the Thousand Islands into a spectacular light show and art installation, combining the magic of night with maritime charm—a highlight of the anniversary celebrations.
Mass Circumcision Event
On June 3, 2025, mass circumcision will take place across the five administrative cities of Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, showcasing Jakarta’s social care in pivotal moments of its citizens' lives.
Taiwan Run
On June 7, 2025, Pasar Seni Ancol will host the Taiwan Run—an inclusive, globally-minded sports event open to all and part of the lead-up to Jakarta’s anniversary peak.
Regular Wayang Kulit Performances
Traditional shadow puppet performances will be held on June 8, 22, and 29, 2025, at the Wayang Museum in Kota Tua. This ongoing event preserves traditional arts deeply rooted in Jakarta’s cultural identity.
Traditional Theater Festival 2025
With the theme “Preserving Traditional Arts Towards Jakarta’s 500th Year,” the festival runs from June 10 to 18, 2025, at Jakarta Arts Building, featuring folk theater groups from various regions performing stories that highlight Jakarta’s cultural and social values.
Narasi Nusantara – Mitra Praja Utama
On June 12–13, 2025, Lapangan Banteng will host Narasi Nusantara, an inter-provincial collaboration featuring performing arts, cultural bazaars, and exhibitions of regional richness as part of the city’s 498th anniversary celebration.
Jakarta Future Festival 2025
From June 13 to 15, Taman Ismail Marzuki will become a hub for innovation and future visions through exhibitions, public discussions, and creative works that represent Jakarta’s outlook as it approaches its 500th year.
JIS Sport Festival
On June 14, 2025, Jakarta International Stadium will host the JIS Sport Festival—a celebration of healthy living with sports, performances, and interactive activities in a festive setting.
Mobile Legends Professional League Season 15
Taking place on June 15, 2025, at Jakarta International Velodrome, this e-sports competition is part of the anniversary celebrations and reflects the city’s embrace of digital culture and technology.

On June 18, 2025, at the City Hall Pavilion or Monas Crossroads, this educational and family-friendly campaign raises awareness on clean water, sanitation, and environmental care.
Bazaar, Music, and Culture Festival at Jakarta’s DPRD
From June 18 to 20, 2025, the Jakarta DPRD courtyard will host MSME bazaars, entertainment stages, and cultural performances—bringing the anniversary spirit to the heart of the city’s legislative building.
Gymnastics Jakarta Open 2025
Taking place from June 19 to 22, 2025, at Raden Inten Gymnasium in Duren Sawit, this gymnastics competition welcomes young athletes from across regions in the spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity.
