Regulations on Illegal Parking

The prohibition of illegal parking is stated in Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 22 Tahun 2009 Tentang Lalu Lintas dan Angkutan Jalan. Article 287 in paragraph four states: “Any person driving a motor vehicle on the road who violates traffic movement regulations as referred to in Article 106, paragraph (4), letter d, or the rules on stopping and parking as referred to in Article 106, paragraph (4), letter e, shall be subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 1 (one) month or a fine of up to Rp250,000 (two hundred fifty thousand rupiah).”

Don’t just fear the fine. If you think about it, there are many other risks associated with illegal parking, such as:

  1. inconveniencing other road users by obstructing their way;

  1. disrupting traffic flow;

  1. reducing the security of parked vehicles; and

  1. increasing the risk of accidents.
