The implementation of digitalisation is considered crucial for driving sustainable economic growth. This is why Indonesia has established a digital economic ecosystem. This ecosystem is expected to create numerous job opportunities, stimulate investments, and enhance Indonesia's competitiveness.
Jakarta's Role in Digitalisation Implementation
The Jakarta Provincial Government initiated the Jakarta Smart City unit to implement digitalisation. The unit's objective is to create a sustainable city by utilizing information and communication technology. As a result, the quality of life for residents improves, public services strengthen, and city development progresses through a technology-oriented approach.
“One of the primary goals of Jakarta Smart City is the intelligent use of data and analytics,” Yudhistira Nugraha, Director of Jakarta Smart City, explained. “The government collects and analyses data from various sources, such as Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, surveillance cameras, social media, and other government systems, to achieve this objective.”Surveillance cameras and video analysis are utilized to monitor security across different areas of Jakarta, ensuring a safer environment for its inhabitants.
Jakarta Smart City Programs
Jakarta Smart City serves a super-app called JAKI. JAKI allows Jakarta residents to access information about public transportation, weather, healthcare services, public events, and various other topics. Additionally, Jakarta residents can report issues they encounter through the Citizen Report feature in JAKI. Government services are integrated within a single application, easily accessible through individual devices. JAKI is available in both Indonesian and English, catering to foreigners in Jakarta as well.

“Jakarta Smart City is an encouraging example of how the application of smart technology can change cities into more inclusive, sustainable, and smart environments, thanks to a collaboration between the government, the commercial sector, academia, and the community,” said Yudhistira.
Jakarta Smart City also collects data to analyse patterns, predict trends, and make informed decisions. This process helps understand citizens' needs, respond to changing conditions, and enhance the effectiveness of planning and decision-making.
Through the Data Science Trainee program, Jakarta Smart City contributes to nurturing digital talents. This program has been active since 2021, mentoring talents to address various Jakarta-related issues using data science.
