JAKI: Integrates Apps to Serve People
If Smartcitizens like to read news, you must have heard about the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, who was concerned with 24,000 government applicationssome time ago. At the 2022 Indonesian Digital Financial Economy Festival, she revealed that the 24,000 government applications work individually and not all of them make work more efficient or used properly, meanwhile, large amounts of budget have been spent.
Following up on this concern, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate informed that the government has created a super application to replace the 2,400 applications. The question that may arise in your mind, is it possible to replace existing applications with just one super app?
Reflecting on JAKI: Integrate 50 Applications for Jakarta Residents
The answer is yes! Of course, one super app can replace the existing apps! Jakarta has implemented data integration and services for the community since 2019 through JAKI (Jakarta Kini). JAKI is a super app that integrates more than 50 applications belonging to the Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) of the Jakarta Provincial Government. As a result, all services in various aspects can be accessed by residents through one door. For example, in an effort to prevent and deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, JAKI users can view daily Covid-19 data, self-test Covid-19 risks, check vaccination schedules, and vaccination registration. With the existence of JAKI, the Jakarta government can go through challenges such as bureaucratic inefficiency that previously experienced. Residents can also feel closer to the service they need, as close to their gadgets.
How Does JAKI Work?
JAKI was developed with three transformations, namely Open API Policy, System Development Collaboration, and Service Integration. Jakarta has millions of data from various government agencies and the public which are continuously being developed. Before JAKI existed, each agency had to collect data on various servers that were not standardized. These agencies also develop public services in silo workflow without any collaboration between each other. The Jakarta Provincial Government then standardizes and integrates all of this data, then provides an Open API so that it can be accessed by all agencies and the public. Not only working alone, the Provincial Government as a city of collaboration, invites system developers to create public services, both developers from within and outside the government. With this collaboration, the Provincial Government can develop public services more quickly. Only later, this service will be integrated into an integrated mobile service. This integration is expected to provide services that have minimal constraints and are interconnected so that citizens can get better access to public services.
JAKI Building a Better Jakarta
The presence of JAKI has brought changes to Jakarta, especially in terms of access to public services and transparency of information.
List of Covid-19 Vaccinations in One Hand
At the beginning of the Covid-19 vaccination, residents who want to be vaccinated must register directly at the vaccination site. Of course, this takes time and takes a lot of effort. The system has to come to the location, it turns out that some vaccination information does not reach those who are not at the location. For this reason, when there is an initiative to accelerate vaccination, the Jakarta Provincial Government through Jakarta Smart City is quick to develop the Covid-19 vaccination registration feature. With this feature, residents can register for vaccinations in just 2-3 minutes. As of 22nd of July 2022, 923.316 citizens have booked their vaccine appointments through JAKI, helping Jakarta became the first province in Indonesia to successfully achieve its vaccination target.
Send City Problem Reports Via JakLapor
With JAKI, community participation in urban development has also become more efficient and significant. Usually, reporting problems around the place of residence can be reported to the Head of the RT or the like. Only then can the RT follow up on the report. However, with limited powers, such a reporting system is somewhat inefficient. In fact, there are several problems that make people confused about who to report to. However, after the existence of JAKI, the public can report problems in their surrounding, such as illegal levies, waterlogging, Covid-19 health protocol violations, by taking pictures of the problem and sending a description. It only takes about 3-5 minutes, and the report will be immediately followed up by the officer. No need to be afraid, your identity will be automatically anonymous so that the security of reporting is maintained. Reports that you send can also be tracked in real-time on their status through the JakRespons.
Provide Free Internet Access with JakWifi
It is undeniable, after the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the culture of society has changed, including digital culture. Along with restrictions on mobility, people are required to carry out activities online, such as school or work. But on the other hand, internet access in Jakarta at the beginning of the pandemic was not evenly distributed. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government has equipped JAKI with a feature called JakWifi. Through this feature, we can find out the location of free WiFi points spread throughout the Jakarta area and The Thousands Islands. The selected locations are sought to be evenly distributed with priority on the environment with lower middle class and densely populated communities.
Now, more than two years after the pandemic, JakWiFi has begun to be developed to facilitate Jakarta residents to work from anywhere and anytime, through the Digital Nomad Jakarta program. The provincial government maximizes public space in Jakarta and the Thousand Islands with free WiFi access, transportation, and accommodation.

JAKI's Success in Helping Millions of Jakartans
To date, more than 2 million people have downloaded the JAKI application. A number of awards have also been won by this application, proving its success in the national and international arena. For example, Runner-Up E-Government Category at WSIS Prizes 2021, TOP Digital Transformation Readiness at TOP Digital Awards 2020, Gold Medal e-Government Category at National Competition IdenTIK, and TOP Digital Implementation 2020 Province Government Level Starts 5 at TOP Digital Awards 2020.
JAKI's achievements are the beginning of a new chapter in the development of the JAKI application. In the future, these features will continue to be developed. In addition, a series of new features will join to fill these super apps, such as the blood supply service feature. Together with collaborators, these features will continue to be developed until the Jakarta Provincial Government provides personalized services within JAKI as a one-stop-service for every citizen who uses it.
In conclusion, if we look at the integration of more than 50 features in JAKI, it can be applied on a national scale. With centralized data and services later, hopefully the public can get better service. Regarding which application will become the integrated center, let’s wait for the next news, first.
