Jakarta Smart City at Techxcon 2025: Building a Sustainable City
Technological advancements always bring changes in our lives. For this era, an example is the presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Have you felt it, Smartcitizens? Innovations driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) have had a positive impact on humanity. What platforms have emerged thanks to this technology? The Technology Expo Conference (Techxcon) 2025 introduced various insights into cutting-edge solutions and technologies. Held on 11–12 February 2025, at SMESCO Indonesia, South Jakarta, the event features a seminar titled Developing a Smart City for a Sustainable Future. Muhammad Agus Mubarok, Head of the Management and Research Unit at Jakarta Smart City, attended as a speaker. In his presentation, he emphasised the importance of digital transformation in smart city development and how Jakarta can continue evolving as a sustainable global city.
Digital Transformation in Smart City Development
Mubarok explained that Jakarta is undergoing a major transition, especially with the relocation of the national capital. This shift requires Jakarta to transform into an economic hub and a global city supported by a strong digital ecosystem. “With Jakarta’s vision as a global city, digital transformation is no longer an option but a necessity,” he stated.
Aligned with the Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045, smart city development in Jakarta is directed toward creating an inclusive and collaborative digital ecosystem. Some key initiatives include:
- Digital Infrastructure: real-time urban monitoring using sensor technology and CCTV, providing free internet access to enhance citizen connectivity, advancing the digitalization of Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah/UMKM (micro, small, and medium enterprises) and government transactions, and utilising the Future City Hub as an innovation center for citizen-driven smart city solutions.
- Digital Government: enhancing digital public services to create a responsive and modern governance system.
- Digital Economy: encouraging technology-based economic growth by supporting startups and digital UMKM.
- Digital Society: increasing digital literacy and fostering a more tech-savvy community.

JAKI Super-App: Integrating Public Services on a Single Platform
As a concrete example of smart city implementation, Mubarok highlighted the role of the JAKI (Jakarta Kini) super-app. This integrated digital platform, developed by the Jakarta Provincial Government, brings together more than 50 public services. “JAKI has been used by over 4 million users and serves as the backbone of Jakarta’s digital public services,” said Mubarok.
JAKI was designed to address urban challenges such as fragmented data, unintegrated services, and inefficiencies in city management. With a data-driven approach, JAKI provides a one-stop solution for accessing weather updates, citizen reporting, air quality monitoring, as well as healthcare and education services.
“Through JAKI, we aim to build a digital ecosystem that not only facilitates access to public services but also actively involves citizens in urban management,” he added.
During the seminar, a visitor asked about community initiatives within Jakarta Smart City. Mubarok responded by emphasizing the importance of the Future City Hub. “One of the ways to engage is through digital literacy programs. We conduct workshops and seminars attended by young people.” Activities at the Future City Hub serve as a platform for upskilling.
As the session concluded, Mubarok stressed that the success of a smart city does not rely solely on technology but also on collaboration between the government, businesses, academia, and the community. “Building a smart city is not just about digital infrastructure; it is about creating an inclusive and sustainable ecosystem,” he explained.
