Jakarta Welcomes the New Governor and Vice Governor
Jakarta is entering a new chapter of leadership! On Thursday, February 20, 2025, thousands of residents witnessed a historic moment as Mr. Pramono Anung was inaugurated as the Governor of DKI Jakarta, alongside Mr. Rano Karno as the Deputy Governor for the 2025-2030 period. The event took place in two stages: the official inauguration at the State Palace by President Prabowo Subianto in the morning, followed by the handover ceremony at Jakarta City Hall in the afternoon.
Handover Ceremony: Public Enthusiasm and Presence of Key Figures
By midday, the atmosphere at Jakarta City Hall grew livelier. Residents who had been waiting since morning remained eager to witness Pramono Anung and Rano Karno officially take over the leadership in the Balai Agung hall of Jakarta City Hall. By 12:00 PM WIB, people from various backgrounds, including supporters and volunteers, continued to arrive, filling the area to witness this significant moment firsthand.
At precisely 12:15 PM WIB, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno arrived at City Hall. Their arrival was greeted by the sounds of tanjidor and marawis music echoing throughout the venue. Before entering Balai Agung, they were welcomed with the traditional Betawi palang pintu ceremony, where local artists recited welcoming pantun (rhymed verses).
Additionally, several religious leaders welcomed the new leadership. As a symbol of respect and blessings, they draped cukin cloth over the shoulders of Pramono and Rano, signifying their acceptance as Jakarta’s new leaders. Following this welcoming ritual, both leaders walked toward Balai Agung, met with cheers and applause from the crowd, who expressed their excitement for the new leaders ready to bring change to the capital.
The ceremony was made even more special by the presence of former Jakarta governors, including Sutiyoso, Fauzi Bowo (Foke), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), and Anies Baswedan. Several department heads and former mayors of Jakarta also attended, creating a warm atmosphere of intergenerational leadership solidarity.
Festivities at City Hall
Beyond the official ceremony, the celebration at Jakarta City Hall featured various activities for the public. Several areas of City Hall were dedicated to showcasing local culinary delights from Jakpreneur-affiliated MSMEs, offering Betawi and Nusantara cuisine for everyone to enjoy.
Nearby, a photo booth with exciting prizes attracted many visitors. Residents could capture this historic moment and upload their photos to social media, tagging the official accounts @dkijakarta and @diskominfotik.jakarta for a chance to win prizes such as Ancol & Dufan vouchers, JakCard electronic money cards from Bank DKI, and electronic devices!
Messages of Hope and Farewell
The handover ceremony at Balai Agung was conducted with solemnity, beginning with the national anthem Indonesia Raya, sung together by the attendees. The atmosphere became even more official when Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi and newly elected Governor Pramono Anung signed the handover document. To ensure governance continuity, the Acting Governor also handed over a transition document outlining Jakarta’s achievements and strategic plans.
In his speech, Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi expressed gratitude for the smooth leadership transition in Jakarta. He emphasized that various efforts had been made to ensure a seamless transfer of responsibilities, allowing the newly elected governor and deputy governor to immediately continue their duties.
"We have full confidence in their leadership. We believe that Mr. Pramono Anung and Mr. Rano Karno will carry out this mandate with excellence and lead Jakarta toward a brighter future. The entire Provincial Government, stakeholders, and the people of Jakarta are ready to fully support this new leadership," said Acting Governor Teguh in his speech. He concluded by apologizing for any shortcomings during his tenure.
Meanwhile, in his first speech as Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing Jakarta. He expressed his respect for former governors and committed to continuing the positive policies they had implemented.
"I will certainly continue the great initiatives built by previous leaders—Mr. Sutiyoso, Mr. Fauzi Bowo, Mr. Anies, Mr. Ahok—and many other predecessors. They have left an extraordinary legacy for Jakarta. Today, together with my deputy governor, I officially assume this responsibility, and we are truly committed to leading Jakarta toward a better future," said Pramono.
He also encouraged all sectors of society to work together and look ahead with optimism.
"To build Jakarta, I will open the widest possible space for collaboration. I need the support of all of you so that Jakarta can become a more advanced and proud city," he concluded.
Following the governor’s speech, the event continued with a prayer led by KH. M. Lutfi Zawawi. This prayer marked a solemn closing, carrying hopes that Jakarta’s new leadership would be blessed with success, wisdom, and a smooth tenure. With the prayer’s conclusion, the handover ceremony officially ended.

Amid this new leadership, Jakarta is also preparing for a major milestone: its 500th anniversary in 2027. As a city that has withstood the test of time, Jakarta continues to grow while staying rooted in its history and culture, adapting to the latest innovations.
