Who is TUMI?

For information, TUMI is a German-based institution that supports the implementation of sustainable mobility. Their mission is to change the existing mobility system with a view to the futureto make the system more friendly for the people as well as the environment. TUMI believes that a bright future comes from sustainable mobility, therefore, they support every policymaker who succeeds in making a change according to their mission.

What Kind of Transformation Has Occurred in Jakarta?

The Hero of Transportation was given to Anies Baswedan because TUMI considers that he is capable of developing a transportation system in Jakarta despite the chaos caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. As stated on their release, even though resources were dwindled during the pandemic, the Governor of Jakarta was still competent in improving the Jakarta transportation system. Anies sees an opportunity to launch an electric bus operational plan and renovate a city-owned public transport to be integrated with the commuter line train station. In addition, the Governor of Jakarta has already provided a 63 km bike lane in Jakarta. In the future, Jakarta is targeted to have a bicycle lane of 500 kilometers.

"We hope that in the future it will not only be 63 km, but the majority of roads in Jakarta can have bicycle lanes. For the first phase, the asphalt will be replaced and after that the markers will be installed", explained Governor Anies.

Moreover, in October 2020 Jakarta won the 2021 Sustainable Transport Award from the Institute for Transformation and Development Policy (ITDP). It is a remarkable achievement as Jakarta is the first city in Southeast Asia to win this award.

The achievement is the result of Jakarta’s hard work for years. As the statistics recorded, in February 2020, Transjakarta achieved its target of carrying one million passengers per day. In addition, Transjakarta, the longest BRT in the world, continues to provide the most consistent and safe transit during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bravo and congratulations Jakarta! Let's continue the good work and be a part of this on-going journey of sustainable transformation!
