Are you a concert frontliner? Whether to acquire the members’ attention or to get a clear view, it is always nice to be in the front row. But, do you ever wonder how people do that? Some of us have the secret: using public transport. You can be free from traffic and you will arrive at the venue on time! For example, you can follow the available Transjakarta routes.  Let me explain how below!

Arrive in the Blink of an Eye

November was the month of stars: there were plenty of great shows to attend. Personally, I loved the Joyland Festival Jakarta 2023! It was held at GBK (Gelora Bung Karno) Baseball Stadium, Senayan, Central Jakarta. Not only was it a strategic location, people also could enjoy the seamless mobility flow.

Using JAKI (Jakarta Kini), the super-app, you can always figure out the easiest way to access public transport. There is a feature called Maps where you can find nearby public facilities and spaces, including bus stops and stations. Once you open it and see the Home page, follow this instruction:

  1. click on the search bar and type Maps;

  1. see the Transportasi (transportation) section;

  1. pick the options that are more convenient for you: Bus Stop (Mikrotrans and Metrotrans stop), Halte TJ (Transjakarta Bus Stop), Stasiun MRT (MRT Station), or Stasiun LRT (LRT Station). See the example: if you choose Bus Stop, you will see the nearest stop from you.

Here are options to get to the GBK Sports Complex by buses:

  1. Metrotrans bus (non-BRT/Bus Rapid Transit): take the 1P Senen–Blok M route and  get off at the Bundaran Senayan 2 Bus Stop;

  1. Transjakarta bus stop (BRT): take the 1 Blok M–Kota route and get off at the Gelora Bung Karno Transjakarta Bus Stop.

Are you more fond of taking the train? You can see the option using this feature, too. Here shows that Bundaran HI MRT Station is the nearest from my location.

Get off at the Istora Mandiri or Senayan MRT Station, which are the nearest stations around the GBK Sports Complex. If you need to enter the GBK main stadium through Gate 1 or Gate 2, I recommend getting off at Senayan MRT Station!

Loved by the Passengers

Are you now more encouraged to use public transportation to have fun? Find your destination and choose the most convenient option for you. Considering how accessible it was, MRT Jakartaannounced that there were 163.162 passengers on 15 November 2023! A lot of them were fans of the University College London alumnus called Coldplay. Thankfully, they arrived safely at the GBK Main Stadium, which happened to be the venue. I wasn’t there, but I’m sure the sky was full of stars that night.

You don’t have to worry anymore about arriving late to see your heroes. It was really worth it to stand before the barricade and sing along with my favourite band. Here, you can see photographs I took of Alvvays, the dreamy Canadian band, at Joyland Festival Jakarta 2023. My dreams finally came true!

When watching a concert, comfort becomes everyone’s responsibility. Remember to maintain cleanliness! Don't forget to always throw your trash into the bins. Also, pay attention to the facilities provided by the promoter. For example, at the Joyland Festival, water refill stations are always available. You can refill your tumbler and reduce plastic bottle waste.

Whose show are you going to see next? Tag your friends along and explore Jakarta with no fear using public transportation. Here’s to many more wonderful memories!
