Future City Hub Welcomes the Visit of Two Deputy Ministers
On February 24, 2025, Future City Hub witnessed a significant step in the development of Jakarta’s creative economy. In the event Collaboration for the Development of Jakarta’s Creative Economy with Intellectual Property, initiated by the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the Ministry of Economy and Creative Affairs (Kemenekraf), two deputy ministers were present to provide direct support for efforts to advance the creative economy in Jakarta.
This event was attended by Mrs. Irene Umar, Deputy Minister of Economy and Creative Affairs, Mrs. Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, and Mrs. Atika Nur Rahmania, Head of Bappeda Jakarta.
Future City Hub: A Collaborative Space for Jakarta’s Future
Before the event began, Mrs. Irene Umar toured Future City Hub with the Head of Bappeda Jakarta, Mrs. Atika Nur Rahmania, to see firsthand how this space is designed as a center for innovation and collaboration.
As part of Jakarta Smart City, Future City Hub facilitates meetings between various stakeholders to discuss innovations and solutions for smart cities. This hub was built through European Union funding under the Smart Change project, aiming to drive digital transformation in Jakarta.

“This space was intentionally designed to encourage more informal communication, fostering a more egalitarian discussion atmosphere. This way, ideas can be freely expressed, ensuring that the collaborations formed truly reflect real needs and innovations,” said Mrs. Atika.
She also expressed hope that Jakarta could become home to Indonesia’s intellectual property (IP), where curated creative products can be activated and optimally utilized for the city's progress.
Deputy Ministers' Support for Jakarta’s Creative Ecosystem
During the discussion session, Mrs. Irene Umar highlighted the importance of managing local intellectual property (IP) to have a global impact.
“This idea initially stemmed from the desire to make Jakarta a cosmopolitan city by showcasing Indonesian local products and IP. Jakarta has enormous potential to become the center of the intellectual property ecosystem in Indonesia. If managed with the right strategy, various local IPs can grow and gain international recognition,” said Mrs. Irene.

She added that Indonesia already has various promising IPs, ranging from Aniwayang, Jumbo, Infia, Indonesia Game Week, to local musicals such as City of Love by Indonesian Cultural Heritage and Kapan Nikah by Jakarta Musical Crew. With stronger support from the government and industry, these IPs can further develop and gain a place on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Mrs. Veronica Tan, also attended the event to show support for the development of Jakarta’s creative economy. Her presence reaffirmed the synergy between various ministries and the Jakarta Provincial Government in strengthening an inclusive and sustainable creative economy ecosystem.
