Building Philosophy
The facade of the building or the perforated facade at JIS has holes that look like a tiger pattern from a distance. The holes are also stylized from the philosophy of dental ornaments. The enthusiasm of this particular design is that this building was built in Jakarta, hence it took the cue from the local culture.
Capacity
JIS has an area of 22.1 hectares with 82,000 capacity. JIS has three levels, namely the lower, middle, and upper stands. Unlike the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), JIS is specially designed for football matches, so that the audience can see the action on the field more closely.
Accessible For People with Disabilities
JIS has facilities specifically for persons with disabilities. One form of concern for people with disabilities is the ease of access to the main door in the west ramp, namely by crossing a bridge, not via stairs. JIS also provides 200 seats specifically for people with disabilities in the audience stands.
Jogging Area on the Stadium Roof
JIS has a jogging track which is located on the 72-meter rooftop of JIS on the Sky View Deck by accessing the 9th floor. This jogging area has a circumference of 950 meters. And the jogging area can be used by the public. While you can jog on the Sky View Deck, you can enjoy the beautiful city of Jakarta from the height.
Hybrid Grass
The grass at JIS uses hybrid grass with 95% natural grass and 5% artificial grass. The use of hybrid grass is considered to be more durable and easier to maintain the grass. For maintenance, the grass is cut periodically, watered, and spread by the pied stilt birds to eat pests.
Retractable Roof
JIS is the second stadium in Southeast Asia to have a retractable roof. The system used is rack and pinion (a drive system from the steering wheel which is forwarded to the roof with the help of under steel components). JIS is the largest stadium in Asia (second largest in the world) with a retractable roof. JIS Beats Singapore National Stadium.
Have a Green Building Vision
Not only the grandeur offered by JIS but also the green energy concept that has been certified by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI). JIS is also the first building in Indonesia to be certified Greenship Platinum from GBCI. Things to fulfill this concept include the utilization of Rooftop Solar Panels, Zero Run-Off, and a Perforated Facade. For example, JIS’s Rooftop Solar Panel can be a source of some of the energy needs in the stadium. Meanwhile, JIS’ Zero Run-Off feature or water conservation is used to water landscape areas. The JIS Perforated Facade design is also able to flow air naturally, and minimize the use of air conditioning.
Easy Access
To visit JIS, there are two main routes that Smarcitizen can take, namely the west ramp and the east ramp. The west ramp, which is also designated a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area, is the central public access area at JIS. There will be three public transportation routes that spectators can use, namely Transjakarta, KRL, and LRT. Transjakarta access is available with corridor 14 (JIS-Senen) or JIS3 (JIS-Harmoni). Meanwhile, for KRL, it is currently still in the stage of study and an approach is to be built. While the LRT is still in the planning. In addition, the eastern ramp is used to accommodate parking access outside the stadium.
Uplifting the Economy of the Surrounding Community
North Jakarta is the designated location for the construction of JIS. This area is the location with the second-highest underprivileged population in DKI Jakarta. Thus, the presence of the JIS stadium is expected to be an attraction as well as the first step to regenerating the North Jakarta area.
