For those of you who live in Jakarta and its surrounding area, the high temperature that strikes lately probably becomes the issue that everybody has been talking about. Yup, you’re not alone in experiencing the scorching hot weather. The high temperature during the day occurs because the sun is currently at the north of the equator. This phenomenon also indicates that Indonesia will enter the dry season. According to the forecasts of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, most regions in Indonesia will experience the beginning of the dry season from April to June 2022. To anticipate the dry season, there are several things you can do. Check these out!

Conserving the Rainwater

Even though we’re entering the dry season, the rain might still come suddenly, especially in the afternoon. This is the right opportunity for you to save the rainwater. Conserving the rainwater is one of the things you can do to anticipate the shortage of clean water during the dry season. In fact, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency asked us, the citizens, to manage our water consumption and conserve the rainwater. To catch and save some rainwater, you can build infiltration wells or make your own biopore holes. Both of these methods are able to store rainwater which can later be used to accommodate the needs of clean water. Not only useful in the dry season, infiltration wells and biopori holes will function as rainwater reservoirs to prevent flooding in the rainy season!

Beware of the Fire Accidents

During the dry season, the number of hotspots in parts of Indonesia will increase which is why more cases of wildfire are found during this season. Although wildfires in Jakarta aren’t that common, we’re advised to remain alert to the possibility of fires caused by the use of stoves and electricity. These two things can trigger fires and the spread can be even wider because of the wind gusts. Lastly, throwing lit cigarette butts should be taken seriously because there are a lot of fire accidents that happen due to this reckless behavior. If you’re faced with an emergency situation, open JakSiaga on JAKI. JakSiaga provides emergency numbers such as the fire department, ambulance, police, and other numbers to help the citizens with emergency situations.

Stay Healthy in Hot Weather

Hot weather can cause discomfort and even health problems like dehydration, headaches, skin irritation to respiratory problems. To prevent these, here are some tips that you can follow.

Sufficient water intake and fruit consumption

Sweating is our body’s response to cool it down during the hot weather, so if you don’t replace it by consuming enough water, you’ll be prone to dehydration. That being said, it’s always nice to have water ready wherever you are. You can add fruits to your daily meals to keep your body fresh.

Use sunscreen and moisturizer daily

Living in a country where the sun shines all year requires us to use sunscreen every day. In addition to preventing skin cancer, sunscreen will also protect your skin from premature aging. Moisturizers are also mandatory to use every day, especially if you are in an air-conditioned room so that your skin doesn’t dry out.

Bring a mask and head protection when going outdoor

The scorching sun often makes our heads dizzy. Therefore, umbrellas, hats, or similar protectors shouldn’t be left behind when you’re going outdoors. Masks can also be your best friend to keep your face away from dust and sun exposure.

Those are some helpful tips you can apply to deal with the current hot weather. To keep up with the latest information on early warnings in Jakarta, head over to JakWarta on JAKI. Get JAKI on Google Play Store or App Store now!
