Smartcitizen, have you utilized your smart device to get the latest and relevant information that is happening around you? Especially during this season when flood may happen, we have to always be on the lookout for every changing situation. If you live in Jakarta, Pantau Banjir is your number one source to track all the necessary information that is related to water level in Jakarta as well as flood information. Pantau Banjir contains various menus presented on its website. Through the complete information available, you will be able to anticipate any possibilities that may occur in the near time. You can as well use the available information for mitigation if there is an emerging flood.

Well, did you know that the Pantau Banjir website provides a map menu? Yup, this map menu consists of three sub-menus, such as flood information map, a RT-based flood map, and flood scenario map. These maps will help you see the actual mapping of water levels across Jakarta. The data shown in the website is relatively simple so you can understand it in no time. In this article, we will explore more on how to read the data in flood information maps and RT-based flood maps.

Monitor Water Level Information

As you open this page, you will see a map of Jakarta. On the left side of the screen, you will see several icons such as floodgates icon, observation posts icon, pump houses icon, and so on. If you click on the icon, you will see several pins on the map of Jakarta. For example, you want to see the floodgates available in Jakarta. If you click on the floodgate icon (the green one) here is what you will see:

Then, if you click on one of the pins on the map, a description will appear like this:

You will see similar information when you click other icons such as observation posts, pump houses, flood-handling posts, and others.

Monitor Flood-affected Areas

The flood information map will mark each areas that are affected by flood into several colors. If there is flood happening in some areas, the map will show several colors depending on the water level conditions. Each color represents the water level as follows:

  • Blue : water level is around 10-30 cm
  • Yellow : water level is around 31-70 cm
  • Orange : water level is around 71-150 cm
  • Red : water level is above 150 cm

You can view flood information based on certain days and hours in the calendar menu available on the left of your screen. As an example, the following is the flood mapping situation in Jakarta on February 21, 2021 at 00.00. It can be seen that Kuningan Barat is colored orange, which means that the water level in that area is around 71-150 cm. Meanwhile, Tebet Barat is colored yellow, means that the water level is around 31-70 cm. You can click on the colored areas as well to find out more detailed information such as the name of the sub-district, RW, and water level information.

Flood Mapping Based on Nearby Neighborhood

Now, let's move on to RT-based flood maps. You will see information such as the number of RTs affected, the range of areas affected by flood, as well as floodgates information. The RT-based map provides floodgates data by showing the water level status which is divided into four categories, they are:

  • Siaga 1: Very High
  • Siaga 2: High
  • Siaga 3: Moderate
  • Normal: Low

To view more detailed data, click on the list of floodgates that are available on the Data Pintu Air menu. For example, the following is a display of information on the Flusing Ancol floodgate as of 3 March 2021. The information provided includes which river that the water originates, the water level, and the floodgate status. Based on this data, it can be concluded that on 3 March 2021, the Flusing Ancol floodgate which the water originated from Ciliwung, the water level was 182 cm and it was classified as Siaga 3 (moderate).
