Brawls? Dangerous!

A brawl is defined as a mass fight. What we all need to remember is that it is not an act of bravery, but a harmful action that negatively affects many people. Besides putting oneself in danger, such violent acts also harm others, including nearby residents and road users who are not involved. The risk of injuries and even fatalities is extremely high, especially due to the use of sharp weapons and other dangerous objects. Moreover, being involved in a brawl can ruin a person's future, whether through criminal charges or losing opportunities for education and employment.

A study  indicates that students in Indonesia sometimes engage in brawls as a way to relieve stress. However, there are many positive activities you can do instead.

Jakarta Provincial Government’s Efforts to Prevent Brawls

The Jakarta Provincial Government continuously strives to prevent brawls through various strategic initiatives. One of these efforts includes providing dedicated spaces for young people, covering training, education, sports, and religious guidance, ensuring they engage in positive and productive activities. Additionally, the government supports vocational training programs through Pusat Pelatihan Kerja Daerah/PPKD (regional job training centers), equipping teenagers with skills and better job opportunities. On the other hand, there are strict legal sanctions for those involved in brawls. Pasal 170 dan Pasal 358 KUHP/Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Pidana) (articles 170 and 358 of the Indonesian criminal code) state that anyone who collectively engages in violence against a person or property faces a prison sentence of up to 5 years and 6 months.
