Try the New Transjakarta Electric Bus!
The new year always gives me fresh energy. In 2025, I made a promise to myself to read more books. I have already set up my 2025 Reading Challenge on Goodreads. This year, I am challenging myself to read 12 books. Now it is time to buy the books that have been sitting on my reading list! After work, I got ready to head to the bookstore. I decided to take the Transjakarta bus since its route covers my destination. Whilst waiting at the Balai Kota Bus Stop, I noticed something unusual: there was a Transjakarta electric bus! I quickly hopped on bus number 6A, which runs the Ragunan–Balai Kota via Kuningan route.

First Impression of Transjakarta Electric Bus
As soon as I stepped inside, I immediately felt the difference. The atmosphere in the bus was so calm. There was no loud engine noise like in most buses. Even the vibrations were barely noticeable. I chose a seat by the window and enjoyed the ride. My gaze was drawn to the neatly arranged women-only section in the middle of the bus. A small detail, but one that significantly enhances passenger comfort.

As I observed more closely, I noticed that the seats on this bus were equipped with seat belts, a feature rarely found in public transportation but crucial for improving passenger safety. Additionally, there were priority seats marked specifically for passengers in need, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities.
This journey made me curious. What other advantages does this electric bus have to offer?

I glanced to the other side of the bus. For safety features, the bus is equipped with a fire extinguisher and an emergency glass-breaking hammer. These preparations are essential for handling emergencies while on board the Transjakarta bus.

Significant Environmental Impact
Good news for Transjakarta bus users, including me. The number of environmentally friendly public transport options has increased with the introduction of the new Transjakarta electric buses. As of December 2024, 200 Transjakarta electric buses are in operation. These buses have the potential to reduce 422,000 tons of CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalent). That is equivalent to planting 1,500,000 trees!
Previously, we had the chance to experience the fun of riding non-BRT electric buses on several routes. Non-BRT(Bus Rapid Transit) is the type of buses with low decks and have no dedicated lanes, unlike BRT buses, which have their own lanes. Now, Transjakarta has introduced the first electric BRT system in Indonesia. This innovation not only provides a comfortable riding experience but also supports the city’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

The Future of Public Transportation in Jakarta
As a pioneer in using electric buses for a BRT system, Transjakarta not only provides a modern transportation solution but also inspires other cities in Indonesia to follow suit. With sustainability as the main focus, Jakarta is steadily moving toward a greener and more innovative future.
The presence of electric buses also encourages Jakarta to become a smart city that is ready to compete with other global cities.. This is tangible proof of implementing smart mobility and smart environment indicators, contributing to efficient and eco-friendly urban planning.
