Jakarta Smart City continues to foster collaboration to address urban challenges through its Living Lab ecosystem. The Living Lab is an urban innovation platform that brings together citizens, academics, industry players, and the government in a collaborative space to understand public needs and co-create practical solutions better.

As part of this initiative, we present the Living Lab Student Challenge, a special program for university students eager to contribute directly to building a smarter city.

Bringing innovative ideas to life with Jakarta Smart City through the Living Lab Student Challenge.

What is A Living Lab?

The Jakarta Smart City Living Lab is an experimental approach that turns the city into a space for learning and real-world testing. It brings together various stakeholders, from residents to policymakers, to co-create digital innovations that genuinely respond to the community's needs. Its ultimate goal is to produce data-driven, collaborative solutions that are truly used and appreciated by the people of Jakarta.

Living Lab Student Challenge: A Platform for Student-Driven Innovation

Part of the Living Lab ecosystem, the Living Lab Student Challenge is designed for active university students in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) who want to make a meaningful impact. In this program, participants will design, prototype, and develop digital solutions based on real issues faced by Jakarta residents, all through a co-creation process with experts and city stakeholders.

Challenge Theme of Living Lab Student Challenge

With the main theme of “Towards Jakarta as a Globally Smart City,” participants are challenged to create solutions based on the following four pillars:

  • Smart Environment (Environmental Sustainability)
Develop solutions that support sustainability, from innovative waste management and renewable energy expansion to community-based disaster preparedness.
  • Smart Living (Social Inclusion)
Ensure equal access to education, healthcare, and public services, especially for vulnerable groups such as women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
  • Smart Government (Efficient Governance)
Strengthen public service delivery through digitalization, ensuring transparency, speed, and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.
  • Smart Economy (Inclusive Growth)
Empower MSMEs and promote financial inclusion through improved digital literacy and wider access to funding opportunities.
