The soft launch of LRT Jabodebek will be conducted from July 12 to August 15, 2023, and it will officially operate on August 18, 2023. Meanwhile, LRT Jakarta has been operating since 2019. Trains
The Jakarta LRT and the Jabodebek LRT each have their own interesting specifications. At first glance, the most noticeable difference between the two LRT systems is the type of train used to serve passengers. Let's take a look at how these two train sets work.
Jakarta LRT Specifications:
Origin : Hyundai Rotem, South Korea
Speed : average 50 km/h, maximum 90 km/h
Capacity : 270 passengers
Jabodebek LRT Specifications:
Origin : PT INKA, Madiun, Indonesia
Speed : design speed 90 km/h, maximum operational speed of 80 km/h
Capacity : 740 passengers (normal load), 1,480 passengers (full load)
Routes
As the names suggest, the routes of LRT Jakarta and LRT Jabodebek are different. LRT Jakarta operates within Jakarta, whilst LRT Jabodebek passes through Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi.

Fares
Before getting on, it's better for Smartcitizen to prepare buying the ticket. The payment methods also vary and can be adjusted to your preferences.
LRT Jakarta Fare
The fare for LRT Jakarta is Rp5.000 for both short and long distances, which can be purchased at the ticket counter or Ticket Vending Machine. Passengers can use the Single Journey Trip card with a deposit of Rp20.000 and a remaining balance of Rp15.000. The remaining balance can be refunded within seven days after the journey. Passengers also can use electronic money cards (KUE) such as e-money (Bank Mandiri), Flazz (BCA), Tap-Cash (BNI), Brizzi (BRI), JakCard (Bank DKI), and JakLingko (Bank DKI/BNI).
LRT Jabodebek Fare
Passengers of LRT Jabodebek will be charged Rp5.000 for the first one-kilometer journey. Each subsequent kilometer will have an additional cost of Rp700. The travel fare is determined by the Ministry of Transportation. During the soft launch, passengers can enjoy the journey with a tariff of only Rp1. This trial is also known as the "joy trip".
"During the tapping process, it turns out that zero rupiah is not detected by the system. That's why we apply a fare of Rp1, so that we can see if the system we implement works normally or not," explained Kuswardojo, Manager of Public Relations for LRT Jabodebek.
