Public Services in Jakarta Before and After JAKI
It's hardly believed that JAKI has been accompanying the people of Jakarta for almost three years. Introduced to the public on September 27, 2019, the JAKI application aims to integrate all existing public services in the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta to meet citizens' information needs.
Over the past three years, JAKI has expanded and facilitated access to public services for Jakarta citizens with various backgrounds. To what extent has JAKI impacted the lives of residents? What were the differences in access to public services before and after JAKI? Let’s find out.
The Impact of JAKI from Multiple Perspectives
As Jakarta's super-app, JAKI's information, features, and services are designed to be utilized by people with different profiles. Therefore, it is necessary to look at the influence of JAKI from various perspectives.
Housewives/Homeowners
Housewives play a crucial role in families which are the smallest social unit in society. Their roles are not only linked with being in the kitchen but also taking care of the family. Before the JAKI application existed, the various roles of housewives and homeowners could have been more difficult. For example, when they want to shop, they need to compare food prices directly in several markets to get the most commensurate price and quality. However, after using JAKI, homeowners don't have to bother going to various markets. Before going to the market, they can check food prices at several nearby markets by using the JakPangan feature on JAKI to compare them.
Another example we could use is when their children get sick. A mother or a homeowner is usually the person who is most alert to take her children for treatment quickly. Unfortunately, sometimes prospective patients must first take a queue number at the health facility, then wait a long time. The JAKI app handles this problem by presenting a service for taking queue numbers for health facilities through JAKI. So, housewives or anyone who wants to see the doctor can get an earlier queue number online, without having to go to a health facility first.
Students
Students also experienced a big impact from JAKI's presence. This is because students need a variety of access to public services that can support their activities. Call it, the internet. After the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Jakarta, schools and universities implemented online learning. However, at that time, internet access in Jakarta was still limited, both in terms of area and citizens’ welfare. JAKI then offers free internet access in parks, public spaces, to the village office. The goal is to be able to support teaching and learning activities in Jakarta.
Not only the internet that students can use to gain knowledge. Facilities available at the Jakarta Library (Perpustakaan Jakarta), such as books, reading room, podcast room, and others, can also be used. Before JAKI existed, students needed to register for visits in person or through other sites. However, registration to the Jakarta Library now can be done via JAKI, so it's enough to download or access only one platform.
In addition to gaining knowledge, students also need access to public transportation, especially after the face-to-face learning system is reimplemented. Before JAKI, when they were going to take public transportation, students could have difficulty checking the departure schedule for the next mode of transportation. However, after having JAKI, they can check public transportation schedules under JakLingko's auspices, which are the MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, and Microtrans only through the application.
Job Seekers
Do you know, Smartcitizen? As of February 2023, there are 397,623 job seekers in Jakarta. This significant number proves that job seekers also need to be facilitated. Through the JAKI application, they can use at least two features to develop their potential and find a job, such as a career portal and a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) coaching platform. Through the career portal at JAKI which is integrated with JakNaker.id owned by DKI Jakarta Province, job seekers can view information and register for various job vacancies, skills training, and self-development facilities. Meanwhile, through the MSME coaching platform at JAKI which is directly connected to JakPreneur, job seekers can get MSME business guidance. The presence of JAKI indeed has an impact on job seekers because it means there are more portals and choices of vacancies that they can find than before the JAKI application.
Office Workers
Jakartans generally have quite high mobility. Proven by researchstated that within a year, Jakartans can spend 214 hours on the way due to traffic jams. This includes office employees who commute 10 times to and from the office within a week. Tackling the issue of traffic jams, in recent years the Provincial Government of Jakarta has been promoting the use of public transportation. However, some of its users, including office employees, might find it difficult to find out the schedule of modes of transportation. JAKI presents a feature to check the JakLingko public transportation schedule, which consists of those of the MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, and Microtrans. Through this feature, public transportation users such as office employees can check when the mode of transportation they are taking will depart.
In addition, other services at JAKI can be utilized by office employees, such as online tax payments. Before JAKI existed, to pay Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB), residents needed to queue at the Samsat (One-stop Administration Services Office) or other payment counters. But now, residents can pay it online through the JAKI application. Apart from paying for PKB, the JAKI application can also be used to check the status of payments for Land and Building Tax (PBB), Regional Tax, and E-levies.
Entrepreneurs
In building and developing a business, it is common for entrepreneurs to need help from other parties. For example, when you are just starting or encountering obstacles in developing a business. Before there was JAKI, entrepreneurs could take guidance independently. However, with the UMKM coaching feature that is directly integrated with JakPreneur at JAKI, access to coaching becomes easier. The services offered also vary, such as training, mentoring, marketing, financing, licensing, and products, and you can choose the services according to your needs.
JAKI's Impact Through Numbers
Those are the impacts of JAKI on various profiles of the people of Jakarta. The actual impact of JAKI can not only be seen from the easy access to public services offered but also from the achievements of the JAKI application. As of 2023, the citizen complaint feature in JAKI has completed more than 300,000 reports. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 vaccination registration feature at JAKI has succeeded in helping more than 3 million citizens register for vaccinations and support the national vaccination acceleration program.
All the changes that JAKI has brought for the people of Jakarta do not mean a halt for JAKI. Moreover, the JAKI application will continue to innovate so that it can support access to digital public services for more Jakarta citizens. Are you ready for the next innovation of JAKI?
