Help Fulfilling the Basic Needs of the Elderly With KLJ Program

Starting off from a mission to provide a decent life to all its residents, the Jakarta Provincial Government provides social funds for the senior citizens through Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ). This program is targeted at the elderly who are economically vulnerable and unable to meet their primary needs. This assistance is provided in the form of financial assistance of IDR 600.000 per month. This year, the government is aiming at 78,169 people as KLJ recipients, 5,676 of which are new participants. Benefits of the Jakarta Elderly Card

The KLJ recipients will receive funds amounting IDR 600.000 per month as stated in the Governor Decree No. 406 Year 2018. The KLJ recipients will get a Monas saving account from Bank DKI and they will get an ATM card as well. This ATM card can be used by KLJ recipients to make transactions through ATM machines and non-cash transactions through the EDC machines. KLJ recipients can also take advantage of the government's subsidy program such as getting subsidized food and free TransJakarta rides.

How to Apply for the Jakarta Elderly Card

KLJ can be given to elderly people who cannot fulfill their basic needs. The criteria for receiving KLJ are:

60 years old and is a Jakarta resident;

Do not have regular income;

Psychologically and socially neglected or have suffered from chronic illnesses.

 

The KLJ recipients must complete the following requirements when they’re claiming their KLJ card:

Invitation from the Social Service;

Identity card (KTP);

Original and copy of Family Card (KK).

The KLJ recipients are the residents of Jakarta whose data have been registered and verified in the Integrated Database. If there is someone who is actually eligible to receive KLJ but their data is not registered in the database, they can visit the local village office for a data update. Related officers will record the prospective recipients and their data will be proposed to the Data and Information Center of the Department of Social Service.

KLJ recipients will get an ATM card along with the PIN from Bank DKI. If the KLJ recipient is unable to get it by themselves, the family can claim the KLJ on their behalf along with a letter of attorney.

KLJ distribution for new participants will be given in several stages. The following is the schedule:

East Jakarta: 19 April 2021

West Jakarta: 20 April 2021

North Jakarta: 21 April 2021

Central Jakarta 22 April 2021

South Jakarta: 23 April 2021

Kepulauan Seribu: to be announced (depending on the weather)
