The atmosphere of Ramadan or the fasting month has been with us for several weeks now. Every day for a month, all Muslims deepen their spiritual growth whilst waiting for the sunset. When the mosque’s drum is hit, that means we can break the fast. It's not uncommon for some people to still be travelling at that time. For those of you who like to take public transportation such as Transjakarta and MRT Jakarta, you can still break your fast on time! Do you know what the rules are?

Rules for Breaking the Fast on Public Transportation

There are rules for breaking the fast on public transportation. Generally, every passenger must maintain cleanliness throughout all areas. In addition, we need to keep our trash until we find the nearest bin. Let’s follow the rules below, so that we can all always feel comfortable!

Rules on Transjakarta

  • allowed to eat and drink inside the bus at the time of breaking the fast; and
  • the maximum time for breaking the fast is 10 minutes from the Maghrib call to prayer.

Allowed to Consume:

  • mineral water, dates, and snacks; and
  • offerings from retail/commercial areas.

Prohibited to Consume:

  • rice and side dishes;
  • food with strong odours; and
  • fast food.

Rules on MRT Jakarta

  • allowed to break the fast (eat and drink) inside the train at the right time; and
  • the maximum time for breaking the fast is 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer.

Allowed to Consume:

  • mineral water and dates; and
  • offerings from commercial areas at the stations for breaking the fast.

Prohibited to Consume:

  • rice and side dishes;
  • snacks;
  • fast food; and
  • drinks other than mineral water, such as tea, coffee, syrup, and soda.

If you want to save whilst also preserving the environment of Jakarta, taking public transportation is indeed the right choice. We also have to always remember that comfort is the responsibility of every passenger. So, let's obey every rule! Together, we can still celebrate Ramadan comfortably while using the available facilities. Don't forget to follow @jsclab  for more information about public transportation in Jakarta!
