The Importance of Reducing Food Waste
Food wastewas the largest contributor to Indonesia’s waste in 2024. According to Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency, 40.91% of Indonesia’s total waste consists of food scraps. This even surpasses plastic waste! Besides harming the environment, throwing away food also means wasting valuable resources such as water, energy, and labor used in its production.
Reducing food waste has a significant positive impact on various aspects of life. By minimising food loss and waste, resources that would have been discarded can instead be allocated to improving productivity and economic growth. Food availability can also increase, helping to combat hunger and malnutrition.
