The three types of transportation have become favorites and even become the mainstay of Jakarta residents, given the dense activities and high mobility. This variety of transportation is followed by various payment methods. Although currently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented integration tariffs, the methods used to make payments can vary. What are the payment methods and what is the process? Come on, check it out!

Transportation Transformation in Jakarta

Transjakarta

Before being integrated as it is now, transportation in Jakarta has undergone many developments from time to time. Ranging from trams that use special rails in the city to motorized vehicles such as oplet, mikrolet, Metromini, or Kopaja buses have graced the streets of the capital city. In operation since 1869, the tram triumphed when Jakarta was still known as Batavia, from its initial horsepower to the switch to steam trams. The tram finally stopped operating after the presence of other public transportation such as the more efficient city bus.

Oplet was popular in Jakarta in the 1960–1970s because of its relatively small size. Then in 1979, the oplet was replaced by the more advanced mikrolet in technology. Currently, the mikrolet has changed into a more modern Mikrotrans with various facilities such as air conditioning, surveillance cameras (CCTV), and automatic doors. The Metromini and Kopaja buses have been in operation since 1962 and had become the rulers of the streets in the 1990s. Now, the two mainstays of the commuters have been transformed into Transjakarta.
